The Bulova brand of watches is a creation of Joseph Bulova, a young creative immigrant from Bohemia. As at 1911, Bulova had started producing pocket watches that attracted increasing demands. By 1912, he established a factory in Bienne, Switzerland to manufacture and assembly watch components. In 1919, he set up the very first full line of jeweled wristwatches completely devoted for men.
In 1920, he built his Observatory on top of his office building to help him have vivid readings of electrically recorded time. By this, he was able to introduce the uniqueness standardization and interchangeability he planned to bring into his creations. These achievements gave him tremendous advantages.
Boluva introduced the first line of wristwatches in 1919. In 1924, he launched his full line of diamond-accented, both for men and ladies. By 1927, shipped 5,000 Lone Eagle watches to Paris. Similarly, he manufactured military wristwatches and other precision timepieces during the World War 11. Between 1952-1954, he also introduced the first completely electronic Bulova watch. The Accutron technology series kept time through electronics. Other products are shock proof, self-winding, wrist-alarm watches, and waterproof watch. 1962 Bulova unveiled the Caravelle line of jeweled watches priced to compete with non-jeweled watches. The product went on to become the biggest seller among jeweled watches in the United States.
The first ever Bulova Accuquartz men's calendar was launched in 1970. An 18-karat gold wristwatch. It was closely followed by Accutron Quartz watch for men in 1976.
An enviable achievement was achieved in 1987 when mens Bulova watches became the US Olympic Team official timepiece (both for the Seoul Olympic Games, as well as Calgary Winter Games).
An array of innovations was unleashed in the 1990s. In 1998, the Millennia Collection exhibited the solar-powered watches, it also showcased the motion quartz watches, including vibra-alarm watches that gave out both vibration and alarm sound options. The following year, the Perpetual Calender and World joined the fray.
In 2009, the unisex Bulova Caravelle line of wristwatches was introduced with all the basic accompaniments of diamond, crystal, sport and bracelet features, for both men and for women.
